500 Chinese Sturgeons Released to the Yangtze River

  On April 14, volunteers release the Chinese sturgeons to the Yangtze River. A total of 500 Chinese sturgeons, including five age groups, are released to the Yangtze River. (Reporter: Huang Yuyang)

  On April 14th, the event of 2018 Three Gorges Chinese sturgeons release was held in Yichang. 500 Chinese sturgeons from five age groups were released to the Yangtze River. It is reported that, since the establishment of the Chinese Sturgeon Research Institute, this is the continuous release of Chinese sturgeons for the 60th time, with the most extensive age echelon of the Chinese sturgeons in history. It’s also a systematic supplement to the wild resources of the Chinese sturgeons. At present, more than 5 million Chinese sturgeons have been released to the Yangtze River.

  Zhang Dingming, member of the Party Group and deputy general manager of the China Three Gorges Corporation, and Cao Wenxuan, member of the Chinese Academy of Science, respectively delivered speeches. Party Secretary Zhou Ji announced the start of the event. City leaders Liu Jianxin and Liu Hongfu participated in the event.

  The event was jointly sponsored by the China Three Gorges Corporation, Agriculture and Rural Water Resources Supervision and Administration Office of the Yangtze River Basin, Hubei Provincial Department of Agriculture and Yichang Municipal Committee. Nearly 1,000 people participated in the event, including scholars, volunteers and student representatives, people from United Nations Development Program (UNDP) representative office in China, Electricite De France (EDF), The Nature Conservancy (TNC), World Wildlife Fund(WWF), General Electric Co.(GE) and other organizations.(Reporter: Lei Pengcheng)
