As one of the 46 pilot cities of waste sorting, Yichang plans to establish 100 demonstration communities this year according to the Three-year Action Plan for Waste Sorting of Yichang City (2018-2020). It is learned that 52 demonstration communities have been established, covering a population of 455,400.

“In the 52 demonstration communities, we have achieved classification in disposition, collection, transportation and processing. As for the other communities, the waste is still dealt with in the conventional way of landfilling,” said Mao Shegao, head of the Municipal Environmental Hygiene Management Office. She also introduced that, at present, further promotion of waste sorting is being vigorously carried out in the whole city. It is expected that by the end of October this year 100 demonstration communities and 747 demonstration residential districts will be established, and by 2020, waste sorting will be fully practiced in Yichang.
