Tujia Customs Appeared at Italian Arts Festival

  On the evening of 20 August local time,the Tujia (Wufeng) Song and Dance Troupe of Hubei Province made a special Tujia performance at the 34th Italian Calabria International Folk Art Festival.

  The troupe performed Tujia songs and dances of "Liu Kou Cha(a folk song of the youth pursuing love and happiness)", "Longchuang Diao(a folk song with colorful dragon boats as props)", "Huang Sijie(a song of the youth pursuing love and happiness)", "Baishou Wu(dances with the hands posting gestures which reflect people’s work and life)",Tujia folk customs of"Kujia(the bride-to-be cries before marriage showing gratitude to anyone who shows her kindness and the passage of her happy life as a child)", "Tujia Nv’erhui(married daughters being invited back to her parents’home)", "Cai Ya Cai(stamping on one’s foot to show affection)"and national-level intangible cultural heritage items. The performance was loudly applauded by the audience.

  The Italian Calabria International Folk Art Festival is hosted by the UNESCO International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts (CIOFF). The festival invites art groups from many countries each year. The Chinese art groups are invited for the first time this year. The festival will last until August 23. Art groups from China, Brazil, Peru, Argentina, South Africa, Bolivia and other countries will tour in many Italian cities and conduct cultural exchanges.
