  (Reporter: Lei Pengcheng) On August 28, the reporter learned from the concentrated start-up activities of major projects in Yichang in August 2019 that Baiyang Port-dredging Railway--the Three Gorges hub, as the first new type of container railway introduced into the dock platform in China, started construction. That means it will truly open up the "last kilometer" of the Baiyang Port railway into the port, realizing seamless connection of railway-waterway coordinated transport.

  According to the data of the transportation department, there are about 900,000 TEUs of the containers passing the Three Gorges Dam. Although it only accounts for 10% of the flow of the dam, it can reach 50% of the total value. In order to solve the problem of restricting the ability of the Yangtze River shipping, Yichang has explored and promoted the construction of the Three Gorges Dam transport system, and outlined the prototype of ships crossing the dam on the basis of the completed Maoping Port upstream of the dam, the downstream Baiyang Port, the expressway and the Yangtze River Bridge. Due to the failure of the railway to enter the port, container cargo crossing the dam was in low efficiency, and it was still constrained to build a smoother Yangtze River golden economic belt.

  At the beginning of 2019, Yichang started the preliminary work of the Baiyang Port-dredging Railway, and accelerated it as a key project of crossing the Three Gorges Dam transport system, providing hardware support for the railway-waterway coordinated transport. The railway was taken from Shawan Station of Ziyun Railway and introduced to the berth 1-4# of Baiyang Port with a total length of the line 2.11km, and the shipment volume was 80,000 TEU/year. The estimated investment was 259 million yuan with a construction period of 18 months. After it is completed, the Baiyang Port-dredging Railway will be interconnected with the national railway network through Ziyun Railway and Zhijiang Railway Station to realize "seamless" switching of railway-waterway transportation for container cargo.

  “The project will be a combination of railway-highway-waterway transportation methods, thus truly opening up the ‘last kilometer’ to connect hardware and software.” Chen Shengwei, deputy general manager of the Transportation Investment Company affiliated to Yichang Construction Investment Group, said that the project was characterized by intelligent connection and operational integration. The intelligent connection means that the intelligent track tractor developed by the project can realize the accurate connection and automatic coordination between the vehicle and the shore bridge; the operation integration refers to the information integration system developed by the project for railway-waterway coordinated transport, which can realize the information sharing between the railway and the port, and unified command and dispatch of the whole process of the railway-waterway coordinated transport.

  Reporters queriedthe new retrieval with the help of relevant departments and found that Baiyang Port-dredging Railway was the first new container railway introduced into the dock platform in China, adopting the mode of direct transportation of goods from vehicles or ships and continuous operation. It has been incorporated into the National Action Plan for Promoting the Facility Connection of Railway-waterway Coordinated Transport in Yangtze River Trunk Ports, and has become a key construction project in the Yangtze River economic belt supervised by the National Development and Reform Commission. After the trestle reinforcement is successfully implemented, it can provide a demonstration for domestic railway dedicated lines to directly go to the dock platform.

  "The Baiyang Port-dredging Railway, as the Three Gorges hub that started this time, is only one of the subprojects of the Three Gorges Dam-crossing transportation system." Deng Jun, chairman of Yichang Urban Construction Holding Group, said that in 2019, we will also launch the construction of the Three Gorges Dam-crossing Jiangnan Railway-waterway Coordinated Transport Project and the Three Gorges Dam-turning Jiangnan Oil and Gas Pipeline Project. At that time, the Three Gorges Dam-turning transportation system will be more perfect, which is based on the Jiangnan and Jiangbei Dam-crossing Expressway, Zigui Port, Baiyang Port, Zigui and Baiyang Port-dredging Railway and Jiangnan Oil Product Dam-crossing Pipeline.
