Li Yugang Performs Wang Zhaojun in Yichang

  On October 19, Li Yugang, a famous singer and actor visited Yichang and performed the story of Wang zhaojun, a famous historical figure of Yichang in the Han Dynasty in the Wuyi Theater, presenting a feast of poetic performance for Yichang people.

  As a song-and-dance drama appointed for the 19th“Meet in Beijing”Art Festival, The Story of Wang Zhaojunwas created by Li Yugang, a first-class actor of the China National Opera & Dance Drama Theater, together with several top professionals of performing arts in the past 6 years. The drama tells the legendary of Wang Zhaojun, a beautiful concubine to a Yuan emperor who volunteered to serve as an ambassador for peace, leaving the imperial court for the frontier to marry the Chanyu, chieftain of the Xiongnu and later became a symbol of harmony among the different ethnic groups in China.

  The performance, accompanied by music of various styles and magnificent stage effect, brought the audiences back to the different scenes of Wang Zhaojun’s life in her hometown, in the palace of the Han Dynasty and outside the Great Wall of different times and spaces. “Because of art, I have become attached to Xingshan, the hometown of Wang Zhaojun. I wish to bring the essence of Zhaojun culture to all over the world, namely the eagerness for peace and goodness”, said Li Yugang in his visit to Zhaojun Village, Xingshan County in 2013, where Li Yugang was greatly inspired in his last visit to it to collect folk elements for creation of the drama.

  As Cao Hongwei, Deputy Secretary and Magistrate of Xingshan County introduced, the drama was the grand finale of the celebration of the Mid-autumn Festival in reminiscence of Wang Zhaojun in Xingshan County, and it contributed to the dissemination of the spirit of Wang Zhaojun to Yichang City and further to the whole world.
