First domestic inland river unmanned smart anchorage put into use in Yichang
2026-05-22 14:35:00

Hazardous chemical ships dock at the Jiuzhou River anchorage for dangerous goods vessels awaiting lock passage.

On May 21, two hazardous chemical vessels successively moored at the Jiuzhou River anchorage for dangerous goods vessels awaiting lock passage, becoming the first ships to use the facility since its commissioning. Located in the Guizhou waterway on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, the anchorage is the first mooring dolphin anchorage built in a deep-water, steep, bare-rock area of the Three Gorges Reservoir region, with a total investment of over 400 million yuan. Equipped with shore power and a smart monitoring system, the anchorage enables unattended remote management, making it the first smart anchorage on China’s inland waterways with visualized management across all operations. Its eight mooring dolphins can accommodate 28 hazardous chemical vessels of 5,000-ton class awaiting lock passage. Once fully operational, the anchorage will effectively ease pressure on anchorage capacity for hazardous chemical vessels in the Three Gorges Reservoir area, reduce lock-waiting time, and help lower costs and improve efficiency for Yangtze River logistics.
